Over 550 Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants Detained In Gujarat Operations

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India]: In a large-scale crackdown across Gujarat, law enforcement agencies detained over 550 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh in coordinated raids conducted in Ahmedabad and Surat, Gujarat police confirmed on Saturday.

The detainees, who were reportedly residing in India with forged documents, are now under interrogation. Deportation proceedings will follow post-verification, police officials said.

Multiple Agencies Involved in Synchronized Operations:

The extensive operation involved several police wings including:

  • Special Operations Group (SOG)
  • Crime Branch
  • Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU)
  • Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB)
  • Local Police Units

In Surat, an overnight combing operation led by SOG, DCB, AHTU, and other units resulted in over 100 detentions.

“They had entered India illegally and were living in Surat with forged documents. After the investigation, they will be deported to Bangladesh,”
said Rajdeep Singh Nakum, DCP, Special Operations Group.

Ahmedabad Operation Yields Major Haul:

A simultaneous early morning sweep in Ahmedabad around 3 am on Saturday led to over 450 detentions.

“We detained 457 individuals, mainly in the Chandola area, based on intelligence inputs. Deportation will follow after interrogation,”
said Ajit Rajian, DCP, Crime Branch.

“HM, CP and DGP had directed us that illegal immigrants must be held. The Crime Branch registered two FIRs from April 2024 till now. 127 illegal Bangladeshis were caught and 77 were deported,”
added Sharad Singhal, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Ahmedabad.

Focus Area: Chandola in Ahmedabad

Officials identified the Chandola area as a hotspot for illegal immigration activity. Intelligence inputs prompted the crackdown in the locality, resulting in 457 detentions in a single sweep—one of the largest such operations in recent times.
