Bangkok [Thailand]: In a significant rescue operation, the Indian Embassy in Thailand, in collaboration with the Indian Embassy in Myanmar, successfully secured the repatriation of 549 Indian nationals who were deceived by fake job offers.
According to an official statement, these individuals were rescued from scam centers operating near the Myanmar-Thailand border and were flown back to India on March 10 and March 11, 2025, via two special flights.
The Indian Embassy in Thailand posted on X (formerly Twitter):
“The Indian Embassy in Thailand, in close coordination with Indian Embassy in Myanmar and local authorities, secured the repatriation of 549 Indians through Mae Sot in Thailand to India on 10 and 11 March 2025 by two special flights. They were rescued from scam centres operating in Myanmar in areas near the Myanmar-Thailand border.”
The embassy emphasized the importance of verifying potential employers and recruitment agents before accepting overseas job offers to avoid such exploitation.
“This is part of Government of India’s sustained efforts to secure release and repatriation of Indian nationals who were lured with fake job offers and were made to work in scam-centers in the neighbouring countries of Thailand,” the statement added.
Earlier on March 11, the Indian embassies in Myanmar and Thailand, in coordination with local authorities, had also facilitated the repatriation of 283 Indian nationals via an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft from Mae Sot.
These individuals were reportedly coerced into participating in cybercrime and other fraudulent activities in scam centers along the Myanmar-Thailand border, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed.
The Indian government continues to advise citizens to thoroughly check the credentials of foreign employers and recruitment agents before accepting overseas job opportunities.
