Doda (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], July 15: A tragic road accident claimed five lives and left 17 others injured on Tuesday after a private tempo overturned on the Doda-Bhart road in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ponda area, officials confirmed.
Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh stated that three of the injured are in critical condition and all victims are undergoing treatment. “The accident occurred near Ponda… 5 are confirmed dead, and 17 are injured. 3 are critical,” Singh told.
Upon hearing of the incident, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh spoke with DC Harvinder Singh and instructed him to ensure maximum medical assistance and continuous updates.
“All possible help and medical aid are being provided. DC is personally supervising the exercise… My sincere condolences to the families of the deceased,” Singh said in a post on X.

This incident follows another accident reported on July 13, where 10 Amarnath Yatra pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh were injured in Kulgam while en route to Vaishno Devi after completing their yatra.
One injured pilgrim shared, “We had left at 3 am. After the accident, we were brought to the hospital. We are receiving good treatment here.”
Orthopaedic specialist Dr. Tariq at GMC Anantnag said most injuries were minor, with one person retained due to chest trauma.
