A 45-year-old man identified as Vikram Sharma jumped from the Mayur Vihar-1 metro station on Monday and was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. The incident occurred after Sharma was seen hanging from the railing of the elevated metro station, prompting a large-scale rescue attempt by emergency personnel.
According to Delhi Police, the station controller at Mayur Vihar-1 metro received information about a man hanging dangerously on the side of the metro platform. A team was dispatched to the site, where they found the man clinging to the railing for nearly half an hour.
Personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Delhi Metro staff, local police, PCR teams, and the Delhi Fire Service responded to the emergency. A hydraulic crane was brought in as part of the rescue operation.
CISF officers attempted to save the man using ropes, and extensive efforts were made to convince him to come to safety.
“A lot of effort was made to save the hanging man and convince him, but despite all efforts, the man jumped from there towards the road,” said an official at the scene.
The injured man was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment. He was later referred to GTB Hospital for further care. His family was informed and arrived at the hospital soon after.
The man has been identified as Vikram Sharma, a resident of Katwaria Sarai, Delhi. He is employed at Infinera Company, located at Sector 15(2), Milestone Tower, Gurugram, Haryana. He is a father to a son and a daughter.
During the rescue and subsequent search, authorities found a mobile phone, a piece of paper with contact numbers, a Delhi Metro card, and ₹1,370 in cash on him.
Further investigation into the motive behind the incident is ongoing.
