4 Killed, 25 Injured In Massive Multi-Vehicle Pile-Up On Yamuna Expressway Amid Dense Fog

At least four people were killed and 25 others injured in a major multi-vehicle accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura on Tuesday morning after dense fog severely reduced visibility, officials said.

The accident involved seven buses and three cars, leading to a massive pile-up on the highway. Due to the force of the collision, several vehicles caught fire, triggering panic among passengers trapped inside.

Fog Led to Chain-Reaction Collision

Confirming the incident, Mathura Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar said poor visibility caused the vehicles to crash into one another.

“At least four people were killed and 25 others were injured in a major road accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura this Tuesday morning. The collision, involving seven buses and three cars, occurred due to dense fog,” SSP Kumar told reporters.

Pointing to the conditions at the site, he added:

“As you can observe, it is still foggy here. This poor visibility is what caused approximately seven buses and three small cars to collide with each other. The accident also resulted in the cars catching fire.”

Rescue Operations Near Completion

Emergency response teams from the fire department, local police, and district administration were rushed to the scene immediately after the accident was reported.

“As soon as the news reached us, teams from our fire service, local police, and local administration were immediately dispatched to the spot,” the SSP said.

He confirmed that search and rescue operations are now nearly complete, and efforts are underway to clear the blocked stretch of the expressway and restore traffic movement.

Injured Stable, Transport Arranged for Stranded Passengers

According to the police, around 25 injured passengers have been admitted to nearby hospitals, but none are in critical condition.

“They are currently receiving the necessary medical care. Additionally, arrangements are being made to transport the remaining stranded passengers to their homes using government vehicles,” SSP Kumar added.

Safety Concerns Amid Winter Fog

The accident has once again highlighted the dangers of driving during dense winter fog on high-speed corridors like the Yamuna Expressway, where low visibility often leads to fatal chain collisions.

Authorities have urged motorists to drive cautiously, maintain safe distances, and follow advisory speed limits, especially during early morning hours when fog is at its densest.
