An earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale struck Delhi-NCR early Monday, sending strong tremors across the region. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the quake occurred at a depth of 5 km, with the epicenter located 9 km east of Faridabad.
The tremors were felt at 5:36 AM, prompting residents to rush out of their homes in panic. “Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.0, Occurred on 17-02-24, 5:36 AM IST, Lat: 28.59°N & Long: 77.16°E, Depth: 5 Km, Location: 9km E of Faridabad, Delhi,” NCS posted on X.
At New Delhi Railway Station, a vendor named Anish described the moment of the quake. “Everything was shaking… customers started screaming…” he said.
There have been no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage, but the tremors served as a reminder of the region’s vulnerability to seismic activity. Authorities continue to monitor the situation for any aftershocks.
