ROHTAK: In a distressing case from Rewari, three girl students—a Class 8 and two Class 7 students—on Monday recorded their statements with the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) regarding alleged sexual abuse by a 52-year-old government teacher. This comes two days after Rewari police booked the accused.
A spokesperson for Rewari police stated that raids were conducted at the house of the accused teacher, who is currently on the run. Investigations revealed that the teacher’s casual leave was approved by the school principal.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Amlesh of Khol police station detailed the initial complaint: “On July 18, a Class 8 girl student accused the social science teacher of touching her inappropriately when she went to the school office to lock it after one of the teachers asked her to do so. The girl said that the office’s lights were off and when she entered, the teacher caught her hand and started touching inappropriately. She somehow managed to come outside and scream. Then, the teacher fled from the school.”
Police officials further reported that two additional girl students alleged that the teacher, who has been in the profession for over 25 years, frequently came to school under the influence of alcohol and had abused and sexually harassed them on several occasions. The CWC members spent nearly two and a half hours counselling and recording the statements of the three girl students.
Khol Block Education Officer (BEO) Santosh Tanwar confirmed that school principal Raj Kumar had approved the accused teacher’s casual leave from July 21 until July 30. Rewari Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Meena announced that the teacher’s casual leave would be cancelled, and an investigation would be initiated to determine the grounds on which his leave was approved.
The teacher has been booked under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Despite repeated attempts, the principal could not be reached for comment.
Separate Incident: Minor Girl Raped and Impregnated by Neighbour
In a separate and equally disturbing case, a Class 8 girl student from Uttar Pradesh, residing in Rewari, was allegedly raped by a man living in her neighbourhood, leading to her pregnancy.
The girl’s mother approached the Rewari Model Town police station on July 20, alleging that a man from Bihar, who works in a local factory, had been raping her daughter for the past four months. The horrific truth came to light on July 20 when the girl experienced vomiting, prompting her mother to take her to a doctor, who confirmed the pregnancy.
Rewari Model Town Police Station House Officer Seema Kumar stated that they have booked the man on charges of rape and various sections of the POCSO Act. A manhunt has been launched to arrest the accused.
