Washington [US], December 20: The release date for the much-awaited post-apocalyptic horror film 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple has been officially revealed. Directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Alex Garland, the film will be released in theaters on January 16, 2026, as announced by Sony Pictures on Thursday.
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is the second installment in Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s planned zombie apocalypse trilogy. The film will follow 28 Years Later, which is scheduled for release in 2025, and marks the fourth movie in the 28 Days Later franchise.
Earlier this month, the filmmakers teased the project with a first-look trailer. Both 28 Years Later and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple were filmed back-to-back, with Boyle and Garland collaborating on the scripts.
In 28 Years Later, Cillian Murphy reprises his role as a survivor from the 2002 film, alongside a stellar cast including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Erin Kellyman, and Edvin Ryding. The film will explore the aftermath of the Rage Virus outbreak, with survivors fighting to survive in a world overrun by infected hordes.
The official film description states, “Sometime after the events of 28 Weeks Later, the Rage Virus has returned, and a group of survivors must endure in a world ravaged by the infected.”
