At Least 26 Killed In IED Blast On Road Between Rann And Gamboru Ngala In Nigeria’s Borno State

At least 26 people were killed and three others injured on Monday after two vehicles struck an improvised explosive device (IED) along a remote road in northeastern Nigeria, TASS reported, citing Reuters and local residents.

The deadly incident occurred between the towns of Rann and Gamboru Ngala in Borno state, a region notorious for its history of extremist insurgency and militant violence.

Local residents said the two vehicles detonated the hidden explosive while travelling the route linking the two towns, triggering a powerful blast that claimed dozens of lives.

Three survivors of the explosion were urgently transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, though their current condition remains undisclosed, according to the TASS report.

The International Safety Organization, which supports security operations for foreign NGOs in Nigeria’s northeast, confirmed the incident through an internal memo reviewed by Reuters.

As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack. However, Borno state continues to be a major stronghold for militant groups such as Boko Haram, which has carried out repeated attacks on civilians and security forces for over a decade, contributing to widespread instability across the region.

The incident highlights the ongoing threat to civilian life in Nigeria’s northeast, where efforts to curb extremism and restore security have met with limited success amid persistent violence.
