In a swift and strategic response to the Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian Army neutralised two terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The operation comes amid heightened security across the Valley following the attack that targeted tourists in Pahalgam.
According to Brigadier Mayank Shukla, Commander of the 161 Infantry Brigade, the counter-infiltration operation was launched on the intervening night of April 22 and 23, following credible intelligence inputs regarding the movement of Pakistani terrorists.
“Our surveillance, drones, and ambush parties were redeployed and resited. At around 3 am, when the terrorists crossed the LoC, they were ambushed. After a two-hour firefight, both terrorists were neutralised,” Brigadier Shukla told the press.
Recoveries & Intelligence
The army recovered:
- 2 AK-47 rifles
- 1 Chinese 9mm pistol
- Multiple magazines and a large cache of ammunition
- One 10kg Improvised Explosive Device (IED)
The operation was conducted in dense forest terrain, and sanitisation searches continue in the area. The Jammu and Kashmir Police are now working to identify the deceased terrorists, believed to have been part of a planned infiltration mission orchestrated from across the border.
Heightened Ops Across Kashmir
Simultaneous operations have been intensified across Baramulla, Anantnag, and Shopian, with security forces on high alert. Search and surveillance teams have been deployed in vulnerable zones, and exit routes have been sealed to prevent terrorist escapes.
Officials confirmed that these coordinated actions are part of “Operation Clean Valley”, aimed at dismantling sleeper cells and preventing further infiltrations.
