Bengaluru police have registered a murder case against a 21-year-old man, Aarav Hanoy, for allegedly stabbing 19-year-old Maya Gogoi to death. The incident occurred at the Royal Living service apartment in Indira Nagar, Karnataka.
The case has been filed under Sections 103 and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, officials confirmed. The accused, a resident of Kannur, Kerala, works as a student counselor at a private education firm in Bengaluru’s HSR Layout, while the victim, hailing from Guwahati, Assam, also worked as a counselor in Koramangala.
Details of the Incident
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bengaluru, D Devaraja, explained that the murder came to light after a foul smell was reported from the apartment. Upon investigation, police discovered the victim’s body, which had been in the apartment for two days.
“The incident happened at the Royal Living in Indira Nagar, a place where they were staying. We got information that there is some stinking smell. Our officers and forensic team visited and found the dead body of a lady. After examination, a murder case was registered in the Indira Nagar police station,” said DCP Devaraja.
CCTV footage revealed that the pair had checked into the apartment on November 23 at 12:28 PM, but Aarav was seen leaving alone on November 26 at 8:30 AM.
Cause of Death
The victim, Maya Gogoi, was found with stab wounds to her chest and multiple other injuries. Forensic teams also recovered a nylon cable and knife from the crime scene.
“We found a nylon cable and knife in the room as well. We will know further details after arresting the accused,” added DCP Devaraja.
