GANDERBAL – A terrible crime has shaken the Ganderbal district of central Kashmir. A 14-year-old girl was found dead hours after being kidnapped on Sunday. In the morning, the body of the class-7 kid was found near a road in Sehpora Batpora, Ganderbal. This made people angry and led to protests, with villagers calling for the quick arrest and death punishment of those involved.
Khalil Poswal, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Ganderbal, said that “some individuals” took the girl from near her home in the Sehpora region while she was with her older sister. The older sister got away, but the smaller girl was taken and slain. “She had been stabbed,” a neighbor of the victim’s family and a protester informed reporters.
The police have opened a murder case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to go into the crime in further depth. The BNS says that murder is a crime that can be punished by death or life in prison.

People in the area showed their sadness and anger and called for quick action from the government to bring the criminals to justice. “We want the government to arrest those who are responsible and give them a harsh punishment,” stated a protester.
SSP Poswal said that the police have found some clues at the spot. Forensic teams have gathered samples and sent them to labs in Chandigarh and elsewhere for testing. The deceased’s sister is a critical witness, but she and the rest of the family are still in shock. The police are also looking at video from cameras in and around the location, and they have asked teams from Srinagar to help with the inquiry.
Poswal stated, “We have also called teams from Srinagar to find out who the kidnappers were and why this happened.” He asked the public to stay calm and help with the investigation. “We promise to work out this case.” We ask everyone to stay calm. A group of doctors has also been put together to look at the matter in more depth.
The tragedy has once again brought attention to the issue of women’s safety in the area, and the community has responded with grief and pleas for justice.
