New Delhi [India]: A 12th-grade student has been detained for allegedly sending bomb threat emails to several schools across Delhi, a police official revealed.
According to the authorities, the student was responsible for the last 23 bomb threat emails received by various schools in the national capital. During questioning, he admitted to having sent similar threats in the past.
“The last 23 threat emails received by different schools in Delhi were sent by a 12th-class student. During interrogation, he admitted that he had sent threat emails earlier as well,” stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South, Ankit Chauhan.
On Wednesday, several schools in Delhi reported receiving bomb threat emails, including Delhi Public School branches in Vasant Vihar and RK Puram, Blue Bells School, and Tagore International. The emails claimed that significant amounts of explosives had been planted on their premises.
Authorities are currently investigating these threats, which appear similar to previous hoax bomb threats targeting schools in the city.
One of the emails warned of “massive and highly dangerous explosives” on school grounds. “Your lack of strict bag checks for students entering the school has provided us with the perfect opportunity to carry out our plan,” the email stated, according to police sources.
The sender appeared to have detailed knowledge of school activities, including the exam schedule and student movements. “During this time, everyone apart from the students writing the exam will either be standing outside on the field or wandering around the building. You will remain completely unaware of the devastating explosives that have already been planted in multiple key locations on your premises,” the email read.
