Nagpur– Torrential rains battered Nagpur district early Wednesday, causing widespread flooding, blocking roads, and isolating dozens of villages. Tragically, two individuals were swept away in separate incidents — one confirmed dead, and another still missing.
According to officials, 18-year-old Kartik Shivshankar Ladse from Uppalwadi fell into an overflowing drain around 4:00 am. His body was recovered shortly after.
In a separate incident at 7:30 am, Anil Hanumant Panpatte from Borgaon village in Kalmeshwar tehsil was swept away in a swollen drain. Rescue teams are actively searching for him, said local authorities.
Superintendent of Police Harssh Poddar confirmed that 71 villages in rural Nagpur have been completely cut off due to waterlogging and damaged connectivity. Rescue and relief operations are being conducted with the support of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

In response to the red alert, Nagpur Collector Vipin Itankar ordered all schools and colleges closed on July 9 as a precaution.

The Regional Meteorological Centre reported that Nagpur city recorded 172.2 mm of rainfall in just nine hours, between 8:30 pm Tuesday and 5:30 am Wednesday.
Several state highways and interior roads have been shut due to overflowing rivers and drains, said the District Information Office. Numerous talukas are facing road blockages, and flood-like conditions have been reported.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with rescue teams prioritizing evacuation and aid in the worst-hit areas. With more rain predicted, the risk of further flooding and damage remains high.
